Eating honey is good and sweet on the tongue – know that wisdom is just as good and sweet on the soul.
We are quickened to the study of wisdom by considering both the pleasure and the profit of it. All of us relish things that are sweet to the palate; but many have no relish for the things that are sweet to the purified soul, and that make us wise when we come to salvation.
There is joy and satisfaction of spirit, only in getting wisdom.
What we love, we love to think of. All true wisdom is from God. A good person carries their Bible with them, if not in their hands, yet in their head and in their heart. By meditation on God’s testimonies we understand more than our teachers, when we understand our own hearts. The written word is a more sure guide to heaven, than all the fathers, the teachers, and ancients of the church. We cannot, with any comfort or boldness, attend God in holy duties, while under guilt, or in any by-way.
