Feeling that I need a healthy dose of wisdom, I am turning towards the book of Proverbs this year as my study guide.  I am looking to this collection of moral and religious teachings that come in the form of sayings and proverbs to help me recognize what wisdom is and discern what is good advice – bonus if I can actually grab a hold of some of those deep sayings and understand them.

Much of what I am looking for has to do with practical, everyday concerns.  I know it starts with – “To have knowledge, you must first have reverence for the Lord” – and from there lets see what I can learn about religious morality, common sense and good manners.

These sayings come from ancient Israelite teachers who have identified what a wise person will do in certain situations.  I am looking forward to hearing more about family relations, how to deal with other people, business dealings, matters of etiquette in social relationships and hopeful some tips on self-control, humility, patience, respect for the poor and loyalty to friends.
